Ungklang-Angklung

8-channel fixed media,

2019.

WARNING: Contains high dynamic ranges and intense changes of loudness.

“Ungklang-Angklung” is a circular 8-channel composition based on recorded samples of 3-octave pseudo-chromatic angklung. Angklung is an instrument made of varying numbers of bamboo tubes originating from West Java, Indonesia.

While angklung constitutes individual acoustic instruments normally played by several people, in this context, all angklung samples are digitally spatialized to explore further their fundamental nature of being physically spatial instruments and electronically manipulated to explore their acousmatic potential.

The angklung set was recorded using REAPER. The sample recording was entirely composed using SuperCollider from the beginning to the end.
