Sound and Stories: Berlin is an album of graphic scores and sounds. This album is part of Sound and Stories: Berlin, a project led by Jay Afrisando (DAAD Music & Sound Fellow 2024-25). He collaborated with students from Nürtingen-Grundschule Kreuzberg class 456A (students of Wiebke Janzen), students from Willkommensschule WiKo TXL P10 (students of Tiantian Wang, Carola Drees, and Shorena Ghonghadze), writer Terry Perdanawati, and cultural agent Carsten Cremer.

From March to May 2025, Jay Afrisando conducted workshops for elementary school students showcasing story, sound, and everyday experiences as sources of creativity. The project was designed in a participatory way; students contributed and developed ideas, which were integrated into the concept and further used in the subsequent workshop sessions. The workshops culminated in a drawing exhibition, a screening of bedtime noise story videos, and a participatory drawing-and-sound performance on 19 June 2025 at daadgalerie, Berlin.

The students’ drawings, as well as those of the co-facilitators and teachers, serve as a catalyst for this album, in which Jay Afrisando and Agustin Genoud (DAAD Music & Sound Fellow 2024) create various sonic responses through voice, toys, everyday objects, and conventional musical instruments. Genoud and Afrisando responded to the drawings separately without knowing what the sonic responses would sound like. Both sonic responses were combined into tracks, each corresponding to the particular drawings. Finally, each sound is described, allowing it to be experienced through text while also expanding what sounds and stories can be.
