Spirals

duo violin

2017

Aimed to show spirals geometrically and auditorily, Spirals is a piece that mostly uses the Fibonacchi spirals and other symmetrical & non-symmetrical spirals applied on rhythm, frequency, timbre, and dynamics. The making of Spirals was also inpsired by the notion of the traditional Javanese siter tuning in which two strings representing a note are tuned closely with an only approximate distance of smaller-than-50-cent.

The piece is dedicated to Duo Gelland, violinists Cecilia and Martin Gelland. Spirals was premiered on October 18, 2017 at Lloyd Ultan Hall, Minneapolis, MN, US during the 113 Composers Collective Residency.
