Blues Pulse

quinto & tenor sax

Blues Pulse explores minimalism based on the musical tradition of Saluang jo Dendang (Saluang and Singing) in West Sumatera, Indonesia. The ostinato part of the saluang (a 4-hole oblique bamboo flute) style of playing inspires the foundation of this composition.

Performed at the Studio Z, St. Paul, MN, US on September 9, 2017, this performance features Casey Palbicki (US) on quinto and Jay Afrisando (ID) on tenor saxophone.

Supported in part by the American Composers Forum through the Minnesota Emerging Composer Award 2016 funded by the Jerome Foundation.
