Blues Pulse explores minimalism based on the musical tradition of Saluang jo Dendang (Saluang and Singing) in West Sumatera, Indonesia. The ostinato or repeating part of the saluang style of playing inspires the foundation of this composition. Saluang is a 4-hole obliquely-played bamboo flute.
Performed at Studio Z, St. Paul, MN, US on 9 September, 2017.
Supported in part by the American Composers Forum through the Minnesota Emerging Composer Award 2016 funded by the Jerome Foundation.
